Situated at the combe called Les Vallerots and just above the famous plot Saint- Georges this plot of the domaine is in the middle of the slopes and bordered from the upper side by the forest. Production is very low, the wines are concentrated their freshness and minerality is characteristic of their terroir.

The Vaucrains are nonetheless exceptionally suited for laying down, their full potential is revealed after 10 years of ageing.

Les Vaucrains’s poor brown soil is relatively deep and has some chalky stones but less than many vineyards nearby yet where it appears the limestone offers itself in larger chunks that resembling ‘sheep’s heads’. The slope of this 6.2 hectare vineyard, steep and the orientation is mainly east, north-east set at 260-280 meters of altitude.

2006 A good vintage, suffered in the shadow of the, undeniably great, 2005 wines ever since their release. The 2006 vintage has shown it to be, “better than many thought it would be,” and certainly, “undervalued”.

September was clear, warm and dry; a bit of rain in the midst of harvest was not as significant in affecting the quality of the grapes as the humidity in August.

A patchy vintage; wine from the Côte de Nuits will be more consistent, and the best producers may have made some excellent wines. The Côte de Beaune will prove more troublesome, even with careful selection.
